The ask
After Grease Live, FOX came back for Empire. Different audience: Grease fans wanted to be in the movie, while Empire fans admired the show from a distance. The Grease approach wouldn’t work here; we needed a different hook.
What we built
Research that found the hook: the clothes. Cookie Lyon’s wardrobe was what fans talked about most.
A virtual wardrobe where fans styled the show’s characters with outfits and accessories from the series, cut out piece by piece from hundreds of show images.
New looks with every episode, so each air date gave fans a reason to come back.
The hard part
Keeping a web app in step with a TV schedule. Every episode meant new outfits, broken into individual pieces, and ready alongside the broadcast.
